ARN's Adoption Day
On June 2nd 2007, the Animal Rescue Network had an Adoption Day at "Canin-Félin Express" in Saint-Lambert. No cats were adopted on that day, but it wasn't a waste of time either. We ended the day with 2 potencial adopters who'll get in touch with the shelter later, and we probably educated and got the attention of a few people.
And now on with pictures of the day. :)

Greetings from Philo on this hot and humid day!

I spent most of the day waving at cars ; this store is never a very busy one. Most of them waved back, some ignored me completly, and some almost missed their turn from being distracted by a giant kitty. One even asked whether he could adopt me.

It was a very humid day and it felt horrible being in suit. I was enjoying fully every tiny breeze passing by. Seriously, if the air hadn't been so wet and heavy, I would've felt much better. The breeze was scarce, but I enjoyed every bit of it.

I was doing all I could to try and get the attention of the passer-by. Who ever said cats don't dance?

This little girl was afraid of me, the poor thing. So I hid and pretended being afraid of her myself. That made her laugh a lot and we played Peek-A-Boo for a while.

Spotted!!!

Then Karine handed her a wand toy to play with me. It always seems less scary when you don't have to touch the kitty to interact with it... She enjoyed making me hunt the toy from around her Mom.

Then I went around her Mom and since the lil girl now knew I was after the toy and not after her, her favorite game became "Make kitty pounce and take the toy away in time!".

And obviously I missed a lot. :p

So seeing she was growing confident enough, I chased her a bit around the driveway. She was having a lot of fun but I was getting mighty hot and tired from all that pouncing.

What do kitties do when tired? They play laying down. :p

As Philo would say, her mouth full of toy : "MWON!"

At some point I noticed there were a couple of kids rolling down the hill in the park nearby and they were looking at me intensly. I started waving, they waved back. I streched up, they streched up. I crouched down, they crouched down. So we started a game of "Follow the Philo" from afar and it was a lot of fun.

I got pretty hot and tired from doing a lot of jumping jacks and whatnot with the kids, and they still wouldn't come and greet me, they were still staring at me from their hill.

So I decided to go greet them myself.

They were very shy and refused to get down from the hill, so I engaged in a mighty fight with a low branch. They got quite a giggle fit from that.

But to tell you the truth, even the most intriguing branch gets old after a while, and still those kids wouldn't come down.

The older one bravely came to hug me to prove I was no danger, but still her younger sisters refused. That was fine by me, I'm not there to twist anyone's arm. I waved to them and blew kisses and they seemed quite happy with that.

And now, back to work! Back to the store! It was hilarious, one of the little sisters actually followed me for a while. I'd walk away and hear her steps behind me. So I'd turn suddenly and she'd burst laughing and run off. We did this about 3-4 times before she gave up.

Ben found a great kitty to bring home today! ^_^

And honestly, who could blame him for falling for that face?

I was about to call it a day when this firetruck parked right there in front of the store and 5 firemen came out. They said they had one of their collegue they'd like to give for adoption but they were worried no one would want him... Then they went to the ice cream shop across the street. If you know anything about me, you,ll know I have a soft spot for firemen. Don't ask... So I was real happy to see them and was hoping to ask if they'd mind posing for a picture with Philo as soon as they came back from eating their ice cream. However, if you know anything about me, you,ll aslo know I'm horribly shy, so I didn't dare ask them... But I did get a picture of the truck...

This is Johanne. She's the one in charge of most Adoption Days on the south shore. She's also my Pat the Irish's former foster Mom. She's a lot of fun, it's always a pleasure to work with her on any occasion.

What do most kitties do when you try to take a picture of them? They try and sniff the camera, of course!
I hope you enjoyed these pictures, I sure enjoyed my day. Even though it seems I didn't drink enough because I ended up with a headache. I'll be more careful next time for sure. It botters me a bit because I DID drink without waiting to be thirsty, and it was electrolytic water, not even simple water, and still I end up with a headache. I must really kick me into drinking even more. Lesson learned.
Disclaimer : I have pictures of random people I met on the street in there and I forgot to ask their permission. Please, if you see the picture of you or someone you know and would rather have me take it down from my website, let me know and I'll do it right away.
